Three hundred colonists, led by William B. Travis, first settled
on the banks of the Brazos River north of what is now Richmond. It
was the first Anglo settlement in Hispanic Texas, hence the name for
First Colony. The territory's fertile soil historically was the basis
of sugar cane, rice and cattle production. The master-planned community
of First Colony is among the leading areas in housing starts over
the past three years. Most of the homes are new, less than 10 years
old in many cases. New tract, semi-custom and custom homes are available,
many within a country club setting.
